The Mathematics department at Finham Park School is highly regarded by staff, students and parents. As part of our Key Stage 4 offer, all of our students will be entered for GCSE Mathematics and some students will complete AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics.
In 2022 our exam successes included 86% Grade 4 and above in GCSE Mathematics, and our Key Stage 5 students achieved 58% A*-B in A Level Mathematics. We are continually looking to improve upon these successes and are very proud of the results attained this year.

The Mathematics department offers access to events such as the UK Maths Challenge and UKMT Team Maths Challenges, and we are continuously looking for ways to enrich our students’ curriculum. In the past few years we have run several trips to places such as the Bank of England, the Royal Signals museum, Bletchley Park, Thinktank in Birmingham, Coventry Transport Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester and several university talks and workshops for the sixth form. We have taken students to taster days at Oxford University to look at the facilities and the Mathematics Faculty.

Within our curriculum time we follow the national curriculum for Key Stage 3, building upon our student’s knowledge from primary school and for Key Stage 4 we follow the Pearson Edexcel Level 1/Level 2 GCSE (9-1) in Mathematics (1MA1). Developing fluency, reasoning and problem solving are embedded in our schemes of learning rather than treated separately. A coherent curriculum has been developed stating in Year 7 all the way to A level. Topic that students will cover include Number, Ratio and Proportion, Algebra, Geometry and Handling Data. Students in Key Stage 5 will once again follow a program to build upon their Key Stage 4 knowledge and progress through Pure Mathematics (Number, Algebra, Calculus and Trigonometry) and Applied Mathematics (focusing on Statistics and Mechanics content).

We also offer A-Level Further Mathematics and the Level 3 Core Mathematics qualification at KS5.
