Training School: Teacher Training
What to expect...
As a trainee hosted by Finham Park, you will:
- be assigned a skilled and trained subject mentor who you will have weekly meetings with
- support a vertical (years 7-11) mentor group alongside an experienced mentor
- have a time-table, planned to meet your individual course needs
- be provided with a laptop for planning and lesson delivery
- be supported by Training School staff
- have access to a training library
- be involved with the wider school CPD programme
First day of placement
- Parking is available on site
- Please report to reception on arrival
- Please bring Photo ID and CRB check
- Wear appropriate professional, business attire
A typical school day of trainee teacher
- 8:00-8.30 Arrive in school and sign in before going to department area
- 8.40-8.50 Morning briefing in the staffroom (Mon, Wed, Fri)
- 8.50-9.05 Mentor time (pastoral activities)
- 9.05-10.05 Weekly senior mentor meeting (discussion and activities around whole school issues)
- 10.05-11.05 Observation (watching another teacher's lesson, observing for good practice, behaviour management, learning activities)
- 11.05-11.25 Break time (an opportunity to meet other staff in the department or staffroom)
- 11.25-12.25 Preparation time (lesson planning, meeting with other teachers, creating resources)
- 12.25-1:00pm Lunch time
- 1:00pm-2:00pm Teaching (your timetable develops as your classroom confidence and skills level grow)
- 1:00pm-2:00pm Lesson reflection and evaluation (time to discuss with your mentor, or complete personal reflection)
- 3:00pm School finishes
- 3:00-4.30pm TaLK (Teaching and Learning Communities, a time to discuss and share best and next practice with colleagues)
